Having lived in Singapore from 1991 to 1998, it’s a special place for us, with many good memories and where we met a lot of good friends. I first visited, on business in 1984 and have been back many times, both before and after living there. It’s a good place for a couple of days but I don’t think I would want to live there again. However, when we get the chance we usually transit through Singapore when flying to some far flung place.
Singapore Commercial District

Singapore National Gallery
Taken during the same trip in December 2017.
Fittingly located in the heart of the Civic District, the Gallery is housed in the City Hall and the former Supreme Court—two iconic buildings that have played a monumental role in Singapore’s history.
The Gallery showcases more than 8,000 pieces from Singapore’s National Collection, making it one of the world’s largest and most invaluable public collections of Singapore and Southeast Asian modern art from the 19th century to the present day.

The Old Hill Street Police Station
Again, during the same trip in December 2017.
The Old Hill Street Police Station is situated on the corner of Hill Street and River Valley Road.
When the six-storey police station and barracks was constructed in 1934 to house some 1,000 policemen and their families, it was billed, at the time, as a “police skyscraper” by The Straits Times.

Emerald Hill Road
Taken in October 2018 whilst transiting through Singapore on my way to China.
Emerald Hill Road, situated just off Orchard Road has exquisite houses from the era, in the so-called Chinese Baroque style, typified by the use of coloured ceramic tiles, carved swing doors, shuttered windows and pastel-shaded walls with fine plaster mouldings. Unsurprisingly, quite a few now host trendy restaurants and bars, with a few more in a tastelessly jazzed-up row of shophouses called Cuppage Terrace, close to the Centrepoint mall.
